Learners taking action against climate change

The campaign aims to raise pupils' awareness of the impacts of climate change while presenting adaptation options, in particular the promotion of renewable energy.

For this first phase, held on Thursday 16 March 2023, pupils from the Collège d'Enseignement Général Zogbo received a visit from SF World NGO and benefited from an enlightening presentation by Dr Berléo APOVO, a renewable energy expert.

Knowing that school is where a pupil spends a great deal of their time and receives most of their information, running climate change awareness sessions is, for SF World, a fitting way to instil basic concepts in young people.

The session followed an interactive approach that encouraged full participation from the 150 learners (Year 9 and Year 11 classes) through open discussion. The teaching method began by gauging pupils' existing level of knowledge on the subject in order to better guide the discussion, covering basic concepts of climate change and renewable energy.

This first awareness campaign on climate action among pupils was a genuine success. Placing pupils at the heart of the issue helped them realise the important role they play in protecting their environment. By the end of the session, each of them had committed, at their own level, to becoming leaders in environmental protection and the promotion of renewable energy.
